Sitting virtually 40 miles from most anywhere, is Kelso, CA. First a watering stop and helper station for the Los Angeles & Salt Lake RR, this small station became an important stop for the Union Pacific RR during World War II. The depot was restored in the late 1990's and is now the headquarters and museum for the Mojave National Preserve.
